Bulgarian Citizenship for Emigrants to Türkiye and Their Descendants

Legal advice and assistance are provided in matters concerning the determination, restoration and acquisition of Bulgarian citizenship for individuals who emigrated from Bulgaria to the Republic of Türkiye, as well as for their children and descendants.

Legal assistance may include:

• Preliminary legal assessment of the individual case and potential grounds for Bulgarian citizenship
• Verification and determination of Bulgarian citizenship status
• Locating and obtaining Bulgarian birth certificates, civil-status records, official documents and archival records
• Establishing and documenting Bulgarian origin where applicable
• Investigation of the citizenship status of parents, grandparents or other ancestors where relevant to the procedure
• Assistance with discrepancies in names, surnames, dates of birth and other personal information appearing in Bulgarian and Turkish documents

Each case is assessed individually, taking into account the citizenship status of the applicant and their parents or ancestors, the period and circumstances of emigration, and the official documents available.

The absence of some historical documents does not necessarily mean that a procedure is impossible. Depending on the individual circumstances, relevant records and documents may be researched through Bulgarian civil registers and archives.
